DIFFERENCES
Xiaomi Mi A1 is running on the latest Android version (Android 8) whilst Xiaomi Mi 5X is running on Miui 8 which is based on Android 7. This gives the Mi A1 an added advantage over the Mi X5 version. On the other hand Mi 5X is up gradable to Miui 9 (based on Android 8) which makes the two phones to be at par. The Mi A1 version also beats the Mi X5 in that it supports many languages as shown in the table. If you do not primarily use English and China i would advice that you do not buy the Mi 5X as it only support those two languages. The smartphone was primarily targeted to cater for the Chinese market but now it also supports English based customers.
At this point you might think that Xiaomi A1 is the best option considering also that it is $4 cheaper than the Xiaomi Mi 5X at GEAR BEST online store. However if we look closely it is noted that the MI 5X has a 64GB ROM twice as much as that of the Mi A1 smartphone. This comes as a major blow to the Mi A1 as it accommodates more data storage, an advantage in this era where phones store huge volumes of data in the form of movies, videos, pictures apps, etc. In the Gear best online store the Mi 5X was discounted by 40% that is why its value is close to a 32GB phone. In addition the camera of the Mi 5X is more spectacular than the Mi A1, find the review from GSM ARENA and see the difference. I would advice therefore that if your Primary language is Chinese or English get the Xiaomi Mi 5X, but if you use other languages get the Xiaomi Mi A1.
